IBA, Zambales — The provincial government of Zambales is preparing a formal bid to host the 2027 Palarong Pambansa, positioning the province as an emerging hub for grassroots sports development and youth athletics.

Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. announced the planned bid during his State of the Province Address, expressing confidence that Zambales has both the infrastructure and organizational capacity to stage the country’s premier multi-sport event for student-athletes.

“As we prepare our bid for the 2027 Palarong Pambansa, we are confident that Zambales is ready,” Ebdane said. “We will have the facilities, the discipline, and the heart to host this prestigious national competition.”

The governor said the planned bid is part of a broader push to strengthen sports development programs in the province, which he described as essential in instilling discipline, leadership, and a sense of national pride among young Zambaleño athletes.

Central to these efforts is the ongoing construction of the Zambales Sports Complex Track and Football Stadium in the provincial capital of Iba. The facility, which forms part of the province’s wider infrastructure development agenda, is being built to international standards and is designed to accommodate up to 17,000 spectators. Once completed, it is expected to serve as a major venue for regional and national sporting events.

Ebdane also highlighted the continued success of Zambaleño athletes on bigger stages, noting their strong performances in both national and international competitions.

During his address, the governor cited medal-winning athletes from the province who competed in the recent 33rd Southeast Asian Games held in Thailand. Among those recognized were women’s high jump silver medalist Mariel Abuan and men’s volleyball bronze medalist Lloyd Josafat.

Provincial officials said hosting the Palarong Pambansa would not only boost sports development but also generate economic activity and increase national visibility for Zambales, while providing local athletes with greater exposure and motivation to excel.

The provincial government is expected to continue preparations and coordination with national sports and education agencies as it moves forward with its 2027 hosting bid.
