MANILA, Philippines — Listed retailer Wilcon Depot Inc. is stepping up its nationwide expansion, setting its sights on opening as many as eight additional stores this year to capture rising demand for home improvement and finishing construction materials.

Senior executive vice president and chief operating officer Rosemarie Bosch-Ong says the company kicks off the year by launching three branches in January alone. Five more outlets are scheduled to open before yearend, bringing the total planned additions to eight — a mix of full-scale depots and smaller store formats.

The planned rollout surpasses the six branches opened in 2025, signaling a more aggressive growth posture as the retailer strengthens its footprint in underserved markets. As of end-September 2025, Wilcon operates 103 stores nationwide.

Earlier, company president and CEO Lorraine Belo-Cincochan says the sustained expansion ensures Wilcon remains well-positioned to gain additional market share while enhancing service delivery in response to evolving consumer preferences.

Wilcon reaches its 100-store milestone in December 2024, achieving the target a year ahead of schedule. Founded in 1977 with its first branch along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City, the company has steadily built one of the country’s largest networks of home improvement retail stores.

Bosch-Ong notes that the introduction of smaller-format outlets forms part of a broader strategy to bring products closer to communities with limited access to major depots. These scaled-down branches allow the company to widen its reach while maintaining operational flexibility.

On financial performance, Bosch-Ong says results show improvement toward the latter part of 2025, though she declines to provide detailed figures ahead of the company’s full-year disclosure.

For the first nine months of 2025, Wilcon posts a net income of P1.87 billion, down 11.9 percent year-on-year, largely due to disruptions from natural disasters. Net sales, however, climb 2.6 percent to P26.34 billion, supported by contributions from newly opened stores. Despite typhoons, flooding and earthquakes affecting operations in the third quarter, the company says demand remains resilient and expresses optimism for a stronger turnaround by yearend.
