From fairytale to finality: Priscilla Meirelles says marriage to John Estrada is over

After years of speculation, subtle social media hints, and conflicting public statements, Brazilian beauty queen Priscilla Meirelles has drawn a clear line under her 14-year marriage to Filipino actor John Estrada.

In a candid appearance on the talk show Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Meirelles confirmed that she is officially divorced, revealing that she filed for separation in Brazil in 2024—long before publicly acknowledging the move.

When asked point-blank if she was legally single, she answered without hesitation: yes. According to her, Estrada had been informed of the filing last year, which she said explains why he previously mentioned in an interview that he hoped to remarry her.

What makes the revelation more layered is the timeline. In early 2025, during a prior guesting on the same program, Meirelles had maintained that they were still legally married. On Friday, she clarified why.

She disclosed that she deliberately kept quiet while processing the legal requirements abroad. As a Brazilian citizen, she exercised her right to file for divorce in her home country. She traveled there in 2024, secured the necessary documentation, and left a power of attorney with her lawyer to complete the proceedings.

“I wanted to speak only when it was already a fact,” she explained, underscoring that she preferred certainty over speculation.

The emotional weight behind the decision was even more telling. Meirelles shared that after more than a decade of trying to preserve the relationship, she reached a breaking point. For her, the marriage had ceased to feel real long before the paperwork followed.

“I fought for 14 years,” she said, admitting that she no longer saw a shared future. The decision, she added, was about reclaiming peace and choosing to move forward independently.

Estrada, according to Meirelles, did not initially receive the news well. She recounted that his first reaction was to question why she pushed through with the divorce. Her response was direct: she no longer saw him as her partner, nor did she see a future together.

Their marital strain had already spilled into public view in mid-2024. Meirelles stirred conversation online after leaving a cryptic comment on Estrada’s Boracay photos, describing him as “looking very divorced” and tagging another name. The exchange fueled rumors of a third party.

Estrada later issued a statement saying they had “mutually agreed to take a break” and denied any romantic involvement with another woman. He also criticized the spread of fabricated statements attributed to him.

Meirelles, however, contradicted the notion of a mutual decision, stating at the time that there was no such agreement. She maintained that they were still legally married then, while declining to elaborate on deeper issues.

Now, that chapter has formally closed.

The couple married in 2011 and share a daughter, Samantha Anechka, born in 2012. Despite the public unraveling of their relationship, Meirelles emphasized that her focus today is stability and personal growth.

For the former Miss Earth titleholder, the divorce is less about scandal and more about clarity. After years in the spotlight as one of showbiz’s high-profile couples, she appears determined to define her next phase not by controversy—but by conviction.

And this time, she says, she is speaking only because everything is final.
