Trump’s pivot to war

There is no denying it anymore–US President Donald Trump has abandoned all pretense to democracy.

The POTUS has recently taken a series of moves that bolster America’s character and image as the world’s greatest military.

But all global empires, modern or ancient, have to spend more than they earn in taxes and investments to maintain the military strength and overseas presence that they needed to prop up their colonial rule. In so doing, they are saddled with debts that ultimately cause their colossal downfall.

Trump’s claim of military superiority is at once belied by the US government’s grinding to a halt because of fiscal mismanagement. The US government is like a beached whale dying on the sheer weight of its debts.

How can a government that lacks the funds to pay its soldiers, marines, sailors, Guards, aviation traffic controllers, etc. lay claim to having the greatest military not just in the world, but also in the whole of world history?

President Trump’s answer is to gloss over their weaknesses, sweep them under the rug, change some institutional names, and recall all the top generals to Quantico for a dressing down, veiled threats, and similar indelicacies.

New names, slogans

The Gulf of Mexico has been renamed Gulf of America, following Executive Order 14172. Trump and its proponents said this reinforces an “America First” agenda, and he also mentioned this in his speech before the generals.

The move even pressured Google to comply. Google said it is part of a longstanding practice of following name changes when updated by official government sources.

But Google is picky; this practice is not true everywhere. It depends, at best, on the strength or coercive power of the political leadership currently holding sway in a particular jurisdiction.

Take the case of the term “West Philippine Sea,” the name invented by former President Benigno Aquino III to refer to the western section of the Philippines’ EEZ. Google used it for a while, then realizing the shameful error, erased it from its maps.

Another example of American misnomer is renaming the Department of Defense to “Department of War,” as in the old days, with the haughty Pete Hegseth becoming Secretary of War.

Trump’s rationale for this is that it had “a stronger sound” and so his favorite war secretary, believing in his own propaganda that he is an expert on warfare as much as he is professionally akin to Boy Abunda (TV talk show host) and Baron Geisler (you know why) herded some 300 generals and admirals to Quantico, Virginia to listen to two speeches—from Hegseth and Trump—basically outlining new directions in the US military. This occurred last Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025.

Hegseth started with a dressing down about the general’s physical fitness and personal hygiene, basically saying that fat generals are an abomination inside the Pentagon or in any US military camp. The secretary also proclaimed an end to “woke” culture and railed against anything that resembles weakness.

Then the war secretary went on to lecture the generals on how to conduct or win America’s wars, reminding them that their livelihood is to wage war and kill America’s enemies, without mercy and with utmost ferocity and aggressiveness, even without regard to international humanitarian law.

The C-I-C and military solution

The Commander-in-Chief provided the details on why the American taxpayers had to spend for this top-level meeting of key generals who were flown from all over the world to Quantico.

Trump wanted to deploy the military in American cities as he confirmed that there is now an invasion by state enemies right in the heart of the homeland.

The President and CIC cited the cities of San Francisco, New York, Chicago and others where the invisible enemy is conducting from within the undermining of the government. Is it a coincidence that these are cities controlled by Democrats?

Well, even before this meeting, the Internet had been replete with videos showing police brutality in Portland and other areas, and with Trump’s intention of deploying the military to these areas to do violent dispersals of legitimate rallies, things are expected to become worse.

As Hegseth urged the military to “prepare for war,” Trump unveiled his plan to use American cities as sites for military training. This outlandish idea has never been heard before, as previous US presidents had tried to adhere to the US Constitution as often as possible.

Political analysts in America are saying that the plan to deploy the military in key cities is in preparation for suppressing mass dissent that are expected to erupt as the US government closes temporarily for lack of money.

Federal services such as those for health, education, transportation, trade and others are bound to halt or be pruned to a minimum, as ordinary Americans suffer high consumer prices and low incomes, and the elite and extremely rich are blessed with tax cuts.

Demonstrations and rallies against the Trump administration may scale up, reaching levels that are beyond the capability of local police forces, so that the POTUS has started touting martial law ideas that are anathema to the American people.
