QC partners with ImagineLaw to strengthen road safety, aim for Zero-Casualty Record

In an effort to reduce road crashes and fatalities, the Quezon City government has partnered with public interest law group ImagineLaw to strengthen road safety policies and enforcement.

Mayor Joy Belmonte said the collaboration supports the city’s commitment to the Partnership for Healthy Cities, a global network of 74 cities focused on preventing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries.

“This partnership is very important to us in addressing the challenge of road crashes and injuries in the city and in making our roads safer for all road users, especially pedestrians, cyclists and vulnerable groups,” Belmonte said.

According to the QC government, there were 1,841 vehicular crashes in 2020, resulting in 12 deaths and 638 injuries, including 57 pedestrians. With the growing number of vehicles, city officials said road safety enforcement has become even more critical.

Under the partnership, both parties will enhance data management, promote safer road designs, and enforce speed limits more strictly. They will also improve post-crash response systems to ensure faster emergency action and better victim support.

“We are excited to be working again with Quezon City towards the full implementation of the Quezon City Road Safety Code,” said ImagineLaw executive director Sophia San Luis.
