TikTok and DMW team up to fight online job scams targeting Filipino workers

TikTok has partnered with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to protect overseas Filipino job seekers from the growing threat of online recruitment scams.

Launched on World Day Against Trafficking, the collaboration introduces a three-part video series and an Online Resource Hub under TikTok’s digital literacy initiative, #ThinkTwice. The campaign is designed to equip Filipinos with the knowledge and tools to avoid fraudulent job offers, particularly those targeting aspiring overseas workers.

“Safety is core to everything we do at TikTok,” said Peachy Paderna, Public Policy Manager for TikTok Philippines. “With #ThinkTwice, we’re giving users the knowledge to make informed decisions. Teaming up with the DMW allows us to reach Filipino job seekers at scale—and help keep them informed, empowered, and protected.”

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac welcomed the partnership, saying it strengthens the government’s existing Anti Job-Scam campaign. “Scammers are getting smarter, but so are we. This partnership strengthens our Anti Job-Scam campaign and gives us a wider platform to reach our modern-day heroes. With TikTok, we’re turning digital literacy into a frontline defense against illegal recruitment.”

The first video in the series, titled “Backdoor Exit Route,” warns viewers about illegal exit strategies disguised as legitimate job opportunities. These are often used by human traffickers to smuggle individuals out of the country without proper documentation or legal processes.

Two more videos are set for release, offering practical guidance on spotting fake recruiters, recognizing red flags in job listings, and ensuring job offers are verified by the DMW. The campaign is particularly aimed at first-time job seekers planning to work abroad.

In addition, TikTok and the DMW will launch an Online Resource Hub on the platform that will provide up-to-date information on common scams, safe recruitment practices, and official hiring procedures.

With millions of Filipinos active on TikTok daily, the platform aims to transform from a space for entertainment into a powerful tool for public education and digital safety.
