Kapamilya actress Shaina Magdayao is set to portray a lawyer for the first time in her career in the upcoming series “Sins of the Father.” During a media conference and series preview, Shaina expressed her excitement about this new role, admitting that she thought she had experienced every type of character in her years in the entertainment industry.
“Kapag tinatanong kung mayroon role pa ba ako na hindi nagawa, wala na ako masabi kasi parang feeling ko noon nagawa ko na lahat. But then when this show was pitched to me, I realized na mayroon pa pala ako na hindi nagawa which is portraying being a lawyer,” she shared.
To prepare for her role as Attorney Leah Rivera, Shaina immersed herself in legal dramas and consulted friends in the legal field to grasp the nuances of legal dialogue. “It’s actually challenging kasi may mga terminologies and syempre matter of fact mo sasabihin ‘yung linya mo,” she explained. She noted the importance of confidence and rhythm in delivering her lines, stating, “Mayroon silang confidence.”
In “Sins of the Father,” Shaina’s character, Attorney Leah, has ambiguous loyalties, potentially serving as either an ally or adversary to the victims of a scam involving characters played by Gerald Anderson and John Arcilla. Shaina described her character’s complex past and the show’s exploration of themes like scamming and sin. “The question is whether or not the past or your mistakes should define you,” she said.
Ahead of the press conference, Shaina revealed her character’s striking new look, including a short blonde hairstyle. She announced, “First taping day as Atty. Leah Rivera. SINS OF THE FATHER mapapanood ninyo sa June 23 na! Under @jrbcreativeproduction.”
Shaina expressed her excitement about reuniting with former co-stars and veteran director FM Reyes, noting the significance of collaborating again after more than 20 years. “I said yes to the show because of the fact din na makaka-collaborate ko siya ulit,” she said.
“Sins of the Father” is set to premiere on June 23 at 9:30 PM on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, TV5, iWant, and TFC.
