Christophe Sommereux, the son of celebrity couple Christopher Roxas and Gladys Reyes, is carving out his own path in the entertainment industry, focusing on music rather than following in his parents’ footsteps as actors. As the latest addition to ABS-CBN’s record label StarPop, Christophe is excited to share his musical talents as a singer and songwriter.
In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, Christophe explained his decision to pursue music, stating, “Because music has always spoken to me in a way that acting never did.” He expressed deep respect for actors but emphasized that music resonates with him on a different level.
“For me kasi, ever since before, music was something that spoke to me in a sense that I don’t have to be performing it,” he shared. “I could just hear the words coming out of someone’s mouth over some instruments, and suddenly, iba na ‘yung na-fe-feel ko. Suddenly, I experience new emotions. Suddenly, I’m on a different trajectory when it comes to my self-discovery.”
Christopher, his father, played a pivotal role in introducing him to music, which Christophe finds fascinating due to its complexities. “Music is so beautiful to me kasi napaka-complex niya,” he said. “You can’t really pinpoint, or you can’t really associate an emotion to a certain type of genre. You’re gonna find out what works, tapos itutuloy mo ‘yun hanggang mag-blossom siya into something bigger.”
Reflecting on his musical journey, Christophe recalled the challenges he faced in developing his songwriting skills. “‘Yung mga songs na sinusulat ko dati, very hilaw. It [didn’t] sound like a song. It [didn’t] sound like a proper song,” he admitted. However, he has since found his rhythm, attributing his growth to personal experiences.
“I think as I got older, over the years, I’ve also been able to experience much more mature feelings. And I think that also reflected sa musika ko. From hilaw to luto, I think I found my footing in the music industry.”
To mark the beginning of his journey, Christophe launched the music video for his song “Sine” on June 17. The track is part of his self-titled debut extended play (EP), which was released in May, signaling an exciting new chapter in his artistic career.
