The Senate will formally receive the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte from the House panel of prosecutors at 4 p.m. on June 2.
In a letter dated May 19 and released to the media on Thursday, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero said the move aligns with Rule I of the Senate’s Rules of Procedure on Impeachment Trials.
Escudero noted that the official transmittal of the verified impeachment complaint by the House allows the Senate to proceed with preparations for the trial.
“As indicated in our February 24, 2025 letter, the Senate expects the prosecution panel to publicly read the seven charges outlined in the Articles of Impeachment during the open session,” Escudero stated in his letter to House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Following the June 2 proceedings, the Senate is scheduled to convene as an impeachment court at 9 a.m. on June 3 to issue the necessary summons and related orders.
The Office of the Vice President confirmed it had received the Senate’s letter on May 19.
