Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac announced on Thursday that he will submit his courtesy resignation in response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive for all Cabinet members to step down. The move comes as part of a broader effort by the administration to recalibrate its leadership following the outcome of the 2025 midterm elections.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Cacdac expressed his willingness to comply with the President’s directive.
“As a member of the President’s official family, I am always subject to his control and serve under his trust and confidence,” he stated. “I therefore humbly heed the call for courtesy resignation, which I shall submit immediately today.”
President Marcos earlier called on his Cabinet secretaries to tender their resignations, citing the need to align the government more closely with the public’s expectations.
“This is not business as usual,” Marcos said in a press release. “It’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations.”
He had previously mentioned in a podcast that a performance review of Cabinet members is underway, emphasizing that the upcoming reshuffle is focused on “performance, alignment, and urgency,” rather than personalities.
