Security Bank Corporation and Security Bank Capital Investment Corporation have earned three major honors at the Asian Banking & Finance Awards 2026, highlighting the group’s growing strength in digital banking, corporate innovation and large-scale sustainable financing.
Security Bank’s Retail Banking Segment was named Mobile Banking & Payment Initiative of the Year – Philippines, while its Wholesale Banking Segment received the Domestic Digital Transformation Bank of the Year award.
Security Bank Capital, meanwhile, won Syndicated Loan of the Year – Philippines for its role in arranging a PHP150-billion senior term loan facility for Terra Solar Philippines, Inc., one of the country’s biggest project finance transactions.
The three awards put a spotlight on Security Bank’s BetterBanking strategy, which focuses on making financial services easier for consumers, helping businesses modernize their operations and mobilizing capital for projects with long-term economic impact.
Banking in minutes, not in branches
At the retail level, Security Bank has been pushing more of the traditional banking journey onto the smartphone.
Its mobile app allows customers to open accounts in real time through electronic know-your-customer or eKYC technology, using biometric verification and instant identity validation.
Since the capability was introduced, more than 23,000 new-to-bank customers have opened accounts digitally, giving more users access to formal banking services without requiring a traditional branch-based onboarding process.
Existing clients can also open additional accounts through the app and access digital credit services such as installment conversion, balance transfers and credit-to-cash facilities.
“Digital innovation only matters if it makes banking easier for customers,” said Myla Untalan, Security Bank SVP and Strategic Projects Head. “We’re continuously improving our digital platforms to help customers bank more conveniently, securely, and confidently wherever they are.”
Businesses get a faster digital payments engine
Security Bank is also bringing digital transformation deeper into corporate operations.
Its QRPay via API solution allows companies to integrate QR payment generation, processing and reporting directly into their own systems, reducing the need for manual transactions and separate portal-based processes.
The technology has gained significant traction among clients. From 2024 to 2025, transaction count jumped 284 percent, while transaction volume climbed 187 percent.
By connecting banking functions directly to a company’s internal platforms, businesses can automate workflows, improve efficiency and scale their digital payment capabilities more quickly.
“Businesses increasingly expect banking to integrate seamlessly into their operations,” said Jones Diokno, Security Bank SVP and Deposits Business Group Head. “Through API-enabled solutions, we’re helping clients automate processes, improve efficiency, and support their own digital transformation journeys.”
A PHP150-billion bet on the country’s clean-energy future
Beyond digital banking, Security Bank Capital’s award underscores the group’s expanding role in financing some of the Philippines’ biggest infrastructure projects.
The winning transaction was a PHP150-billion, 15-year senior term loan facility for Terra Solar Philippines, Inc., supporting the development of an integrated solar power and battery energy storage project regarded as the world’s largest of its kind as of 2025.
The financing is among the biggest project finance deals completed in the Philippines and is expected to support the country’s shift toward cleaner and more diversified energy sources.
Security Bank said the transaction also introduced financing structures designed to make long-term infrastructure funding more flexible, potentially providing a model for similar large-scale developments in emerging markets.
“This transaction reflects our ability to structure innovative financing solutions for landmark infrastructure projects,” said Virgilio Chua, President and CEO of Security Bank Capital. “We’re proud to help mobilize capital for projects that support national development while delivering value for our clients and partners.”
Yvonne Marcelo, Security Bank EVP and Corporate Banking Head, said the transaction also showed the value of combining the expertise of the bank and its investment banking arm.
“At Security Bank, collaboration is at the heart of how we serve our clients,” Marcelo said. “Together with Security Bank Capital, we combined our strengths to help bring this landmark project to life, demonstrating how integrated expertise can create meaningful outcomes for our clients and the communities they serve.”
The three awards reinforce Security Bank Group’s push to combine technology, financing expertise and strategic partnerships as it seeks to deliver more accessible banking services, smarter solutions for businesses and funding for projects that could shape the Philippines’ long-term development.
