PNP starts PH-wide crackdown on Christmas profiteers, hoarders

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched a strategic, nationwide operation to safeguard consumers from price manipulation and ensure stable access to essential goods during the Christmas season.

Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. announced that police officers have been deployed to public markets, supermarkets, and wet markets to deter hoarding, profiteering, and potential panic-buying following recent reports of rising meat and vegetable prices.

“We have been conducting strategic operations against those involved in any activity that takes advantage of our citizens this holiday season,” Nartatez said in a statement, emphasizing the PNP’s commitment to consumer protection.

The PNP is working in close coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and local government units (LGUs) to monitor price movements, support market inspections, and prevent illegal activities. Furthermore,

The PNP is also conducting intelligence-driven operations specifically targeting hoarders and syndicates suspected of artificially inflating prices.

This intensified effort aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to protect the welfare of consumers while guaranteeing uninterrupted access to basic commodities throughout the holiday rush.
