The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority are preparing to sign an agreement aimed at opening livelihood opportunities for urban poor communities.
The planned memorandum of agreement will focus on skills training and enterprise development linked to the fiber industry.
Under the partnership, beneficiaries are expected to receive training in fiber production, processing, weaving, and product development.
The program also seeks to connect urban poor groups with resources and market opportunities that can help increase household income.
PhilFIDA Chair Ali Atienza supported the proposed agreement, citing the need for livelihood programs that provide communities with practical and sustainable sources of income.
PCUP Commissioner Reynaldo Galupo said the initiative was aligned with efforts to bring government services closer to urban poor families.
Galupo said livelihood programs should go beyond short-term assistance by giving beneficiaries the skills and resources needed to support their families and build self-reliant communities.
Through the partnership, PCUP and PhilFIDA aim to help urban poor families develop livelihood enterprises, strengthen community capacity, and take part in local economic activity.
