Thunderstorms Seen to Develop Over Greater Metro Manila Within 12 Hours

A new weather advisory signals the growing likelihood of thunderstorms forming over Greater Metro Manila within the next 12 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday.

In its morning bulletin issued at 10 a.m., Pagasa said atmospheric conditions influenced by the shear line are setting the stage for thunderstorm development across Metro Manila and neighboring provinces including Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite.

While the broader outlook points to possible thunderstorms later in the day, the agency noted in an 11 a.m. update that only light to moderate rain—intermittently intensifying to brief heavy downpours—will affect Metro Manila, Cavite, and Bulacan in the next three hours. Similar conditions are expected in Pampanga and Bataan.

Laguna and several municipalities in Quezon, including Plaridel, Unisan, Atimonan, Agdangan, Padre Burgos, Pagbilao, Mauban, Tayabas, Sampaloc, Lucban, Lucena, Real, Sariaya, Candelaria, and Dolores, are forecast to experience consistent light to moderate rain.

Pagasa also cautioned that the shear line will continue to trigger widespread rainfall across the rest of Quezon Province, raising concerns over possible flooding in coastal and low-lying areas in the coming hours.
