A spike in holiday travel has prompted the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to step up improvements at major transport terminals nationwide.

The agency reported that the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) handled nearly 5.7 million passengers in December 2025 alone.

More than three million of those trips were logged during the Christmas and New Year period, highlighting peak-season pressure on facilities.

Data showed PITX recorded over 60 million commuters for the full year, marking an increase of more than nine million passengers compared with 2024.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the sustained growth underscores the need to strengthen terminal capacity and operations.

He said the department is focused on bus availability, security measures, and smoother passenger flow, especially during high-demand periods.

Lopez added that access improvements are also underway, including PITX’s connection to LRT-1 and the planned EDSA Busway station within the complex.
