The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) on Friday expressed openness to a new Senate proposal aimed at tightening regulations on online gambling.
In a statement, PAGCOR acknowledged that it is within the power of lawmakers to introduce legislation they believe will serve the public good. This comes in response to a bill filed by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, which seeks to impose stricter rules on online gambling and prohibit the use of e-wallets for such activities.
PAGCOR reaffirmed its commitment to combating illegal online gambling operations, emphasizing that it is working closely with other agencies and groups to strengthen enforcement.
Just last month, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro revealed that the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), in coordination with PAGCOR, had shut down around 7,000 unauthorized online gaming websites.
Castro stressed the government’s zero-tolerance stance on unlicensed internet gambling platforms and urged the public not to support or promote illegal sites.
