Pagasa warned several areas in Mindanao on Friday, July 10, against possible heavy rains due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat.
In its heavy rainfall advisory issued at 9:30 a.m., the state weather bureau placed Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Bukidnon, Sarangani and Davao Occidental under yellow rainfall alert.
A yellow rainfall alert means flooding is possible in low-lying and flood-prone areas, especially when rains continue for several hours.
Pagasa also said moderate to occasional heavy rains could affect other parts of Mindanao within the next one to two hours.
These areas included South Cotabato, Sarangani, North Cotabato, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Sibugay, Camiguin, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Misamis Occidental.
Also expected to experience moderate to occasional heavy rains were Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Sultan Kudarat, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.
The weather bureau said moderate to heavy rains were already affecting Sarangani, Bukidnon, Cotabato City, North Cotabato, Zamboanga del Norte, Davao Occidental, Sulu, Lanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Norte.
Pagasa said the rains may persist for one to two hours and affect nearby areas, as it advised residents to remain alert for possible flooding and landslides.
