Senator Rodante Marcoleta was declared fit to travel by a Philippine National Police doctor during a hearing before the Sandiganbayan Third Division on Friday.
Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, chief of Internal Medicine at the PNP General Hospital, gave the update after the court asked about Marcoleta’s condition.
Associate Justice Karl Miranda asked Bayani whether the senator could already be transported.
Bayani said Marcoleta’s condition had improved and that he was fit to travel as of Friday.
The update came days after the Sandiganbayan Third Division issued a warrant of arrest against Marcoleta on Monday.
The warrant was issued in connection with the plunder case filed against the senator.
Marcoleta was brought to the PNP General Hospital on the same day after he complained of chest pains and hypertension.
The court had set the Friday hearing to check Marcoleta’s health status and determine whether he could proceed with the next steps in the commitment process.
