Batangas sea trips stay suspended due to Inday — PCG

Passenger sea travel from Batangas to several destinations in Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan and Western Visayas remained suspended Friday morning as the Philippine Coast Guard enforced a no-sail policy due to Typhoon Inday.

In an 8 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Ports Authority said it does not directly manage vessel departures, but trips are automatically canceled once the Coast Guard issues a no-sail order.

The PPA said shipping firms may also suspend voyages based on their Certificates of Public Convenience issued by the Maritime Industry Authority.

Affected routes under the Port Management Office Batangas included trips from Batangas to Calapan, Abra de Ilog, Puerto Galera, Odiongan, Caticlan, Roxas City, Culasi, Sibuyan and other Romblon-bound ports.

The suspended trips involved vessels operated by Starlite Ferries, Montenegro Shipping Lines, Island Water, Lite Ferries, 2GO and Galerian.

In Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro, fast craft and Starlite ferry trips between Calapan and Batangas were also halted.

Authorities likewise canceled trips at the ports of Puerto Galera, Roxas and San Jose, while sailings from Bulalacao to Caticlan and from Abra de Ilog to Batangas were affected. In Lubang, sea travel remained suspended under a local government no-sail policy.

Several Palawan voyages were also canceled, including Coron-El Nido routes, all trips from El Nido and trips involving vessels of 250 gross tons and below from Culion. The suspensions stranded hundreds of passengers and delayed cargo movement, prompting port officials to advise travelers to coordinate with shipping companies and monitor advisories from the PPA, PCG and local governments.
