No ID upload? Maya makes account upgrades easier for eligible users

Upgrading a Maya account may now require fewer steps — and for some users, no physical ID upload at all.

Maya has introduced an ID-less verification option for eligible users, allowing them to confirm their identity without taking a photo of or uploading a government-issued ID.

Instead, users can begin by entering their name and birth date. Maya then checks the information against National ID records through National ID eVerify, the identity-verification service of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Those who know their National ID number may also use it as part of the verification process.

After the initial check, users are asked to take a video selfie to help confirm that they are the person linked to the National ID record.

The new process is designed to cut down on repetitive data entry. Maya said users will only be asked to provide additional information if those details cannot already be verified through existing checks.

That could make account upgrades quicker and less cumbersome, especially for users who do not have a physical ID readily available.

But the traditional route is not going away.

If Maya cannot verify a user through National ID eVerify, the customer can continue with the regular ID-upload process without having to start the application from scratch.

Maya said the streamlined process still includes required identity verification, screening and other regulatory checks. Artificial intelligence and automation are used for routine verification, while cases needing further review are handled by human personnel.

The rollout highlights how digital financial platforms are increasingly using government-backed digital identity systems to simplify onboarding while keeping compliance measures in place.

Maya did not announce a specific launch date for the feature. Eligible users may see the ID-less verification option when upgrading their accounts, depending on the results of the verification process.
