The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is currently confirming the reported 52 fatalities following the impact of Typhoon Tino (international name Typhoon Kalmaegi), the agency announced Wednesday.
According to its latest situation report, 50 of the deaths occurred in Region 7 (Central Visayas), and 2 in Region 8 (Eastern Visayas)—a number that more than doubles the previous figure of 26. Meanwhile, injuries are estimated at 10, and 13 people remain missing as the verification process continues.
In total, 203,595 families—comprising about 705,549 individuals across 2,799 barangays in MIMAROPA, Region 5 (Bicol), Region 6 (Western Visayas), the Negros Island Region, Region 7, Region 8 and Caraga—were affected by the storm.
At present, 10,981 families are sheltering in 3,894 evacuation centres, while an additional 27,698 families are receiving assistance while staying with relatives. The disaster response agency also noted that around 70,540 families across seven regions had been preemptively evacuated.
