Saudi Arabia welcomed a United Nations Security Council statement condemning recent Houthi attacks against the kingdom and commercial vessels, the Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
The council’s statement denounced missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia since July 13 and assaults on commercial shipping since July 22.
Riyadh also welcomed the council’s call for adherence to international law and existing UN resolutions related to the conflict in Yemen.
The ministry highlighted the council’s emphasis on respecting Yemen’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
It also pointed to concerns over actions that threaten regional security and freedom of navigation in international waters.
Saudi Arabia urged the international community to enforce relevant Security Council resolutions and take a firm stance against attacks that endanger maritime trade and regional stability.
The kingdom also reiterated that it would protect its territory, citizens and facilities and exercise its right to self-defense in accordance with international law.
Saudi Arabia further reaffirmed its support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government and for UN-led efforts to reach a political settlement to the conflict.
