President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. paid his final respects to the late Quirino Gov. Dakila Carlo “Dax” Cua, whom he remembered as a colleague, friend and longtime public servant.
Marcos visited Cua’s wake on Wednesday, leading members of the Executive branch and Cabinet in paying tribute to the late governor.
“I came to say goodbye to Dax as President, leading the Executive and Cabinet contingent. As a colleague whose work I valued and relied on. And above all, as a friend,” Marcos said in a social media post Thursday.
The President also extended his condolences to Cua’s wife Midy, his parents Junie and Angela, and his three children.
Marcos said Cua devoted 25 years to public service, with his legacy most deeply felt in Quirino through the communities he helped develop and the people he served.
“Let us only hope that we can live up to the legacy that he has left for us,” Marcos said.
Cua served as vice governor and governor of Quirino and as representative of the province’s lone congressional district before returning to the provincial government. He was also president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines.
His family said he had been battling lung cancer since 2024.
“Rest well, Dax. You will be deeply missed,” Marcos said.
