WASHINGTON – The United States and China have agreed to extend their bilateral trade truce through Jan. 10, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Wednesday.
The agreement, which Bessent described as the “Busan Agreement,” had been scheduled to expire on Nov. 10.
Bessent said Washington expects Beijing to more fully implement commitments under the arrangement, noting that some agreed measures had not been carried out as expected.
“There are some deliverables that have not been perfect on the Chinese side,” Bessent told Fox News, adding that US officials had reiterated their expectations during talks.
He also said additional announcements could come in the coming days, including possible Chinese purchases of more US agricultural products and potential agreements involving the financial services sector.
The announcement followed an unscheduled meeting in Washington between Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng earlier Wednesday.
