President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the release of PHP760 million in financial assistance to local government units (LGUs) affected by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi), Malacañang announced Thursday.
According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, the funds from the Office of the President aim to fast-track recovery efforts and provide immediate relief to affected families.
Under the allocation plan, Cebu, Capiz, Surigao del Norte, Iloilo, Bohol, and Negros Occidental will each receive PHP50 million. Cebu, which recorded 71 of the 114 confirmed fatalities, was among the hardest hit with widespread flooding.
Eastern Samar, Surigao del Sur, Southern Leyte, Antique, and Aklan will each get PHP40 million; Leyte and Masbate, PHP30 million each; and Guimaras, Agusan del Norte, and Dinagat Islands, PHP20 million each.
Biliran, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Misamis Oriental, Negros Oriental, and Palawan will receive PHP10 million each, while 12 other provinces and cities, including Albay, Batangas, Quezon, and Manila, will get PHP5 million each.
Marcos earlier declared a state of national calamity to expedite the release of calamity funds, impose price controls on essential goods, and streamline relief operations.
“Binibigyang-diin ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. na hindi bibitiw at hindi iiwanan ng pamahalaan ang Cebu hangga’t lahat ay nakabangon,” Castro said, assuring that government aid will reach even the most remote communities.
