In observance of World Tsunami Awareness Day on November 5, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Naujan District Jail conducted a flood and disaster preparedness drill dubbed “Oplan Baha” aimed at improving the disaster response capabilities of both jail personnel and persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
The initiative, focused on disaster readiness, featured an orientation on tsunami early warning indicators, evacuation protocols, and a simulation exercise on emergency response within the jail facility.
BJMP 4-B (Mimaropa) spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo emphasized that preparedness is everyone’s responsibility. “Through regular drills and training, we empower our personnel and PDLs to respond quickly and effectively when disasters strike,” Anglo said in a news release.
This drill is part of BJMP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster resilience and promote safety inside correctional facilities. The program aligns with BJMP 4-B’s Disaster Preparedness Program, which is being implemented across all jails in the region to ensure consistent safety standards.
BJMP-Naujan currently houses 107 PDLs, who are also actively participating in various rehabilitation and livelihood programs designed to encourage self-sufficiency and reintegration.
