A low-pressure area (LPA) situated east of Mindanao has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as of Sunday morning, the state weather bureau reported.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the weather disturbance crossed into the PAR around 8 a.m. and was last located 845 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao.
Pagasa said the LPA currently carries a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Should the weather system intensify into a tropical depression, it will be given the local name “Verbena.”
Forecasters anticipate that the potential storm will mostly affect the majority of Visayas and Southern Luzon based on its current forecast track.
