ILOILO CITY – The city and provincial governments of Iloilo will extend financial assistance to local government units (LGUs) in Mindanao that were affected by the recent 7.8 magnitude quake.
Mayor Raisa Treñas said that the city government will send PHP1.6 million, or Php 200,000 cash assistance each, to the eight most-affected local government units (LGUs), as approved by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) during its second quarter regular meeting on Tuesday.
Data released on Wednesday showed that the recipient LGUs are General Santos City, South Cotabato; Glan, Maasim, Malapatan, and Kiamba in Sarangani; and Jose Abad Santos, Sarangani Island, and Malita in Davao Occidental.
Meanwhile, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., in a press conference on Wednesday, confirmed that the provincial government will also send assistance, with the proposal of the Provincial DRRM Office already on his table.
“Our assistance will be financial, but again, the nature is not for quick response, not for emergency response. It will go to their infrastructure and the like and not for immediate relief,” he said.
He said they hoped to finalize the amount that would be sent to the affected LGUs before the end of the week. (PNA)
