House Speaker assures rehab, recovery funds for Tino victims

Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III on Wednesday assured that the House of Representatives is ready to assist in the rehabilitation of communities hit byTyphoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi).

In a statement, Dy extended his sympathy to families heavily impacted by the typhoon — especially those in Visayas, as well as certain parts of Mindanao and Southern Luzon that faced heavy rainfall and strong winds.   He said the House is standing with them in their prayers for safety and a swift recovery.

Dy noted that representatives from the affected areas are coordinating with national agencies and local government units to ensure that support and aid reach their constituents without delay.   He emphasized that those who lost their homes or livelihoods “are not alone” — their elected officials remain active in securing the assistance and protection needed to help them begin anew.

On the funding front, Dy reaffirmed the House’s readiness “as an institution” to allocate the necessary funds and support the programs that will accelerate rehabilitation efforts, restore livelihoods, and rebuild damaged infrastructure.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Typhoon Tino has affected approximately 203,595 families (or 705,549 individuals) across 2,799 barangays in Mimaropa, the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.   Currently, 10,981 families are taking refuge in 3,894 evacuation centres, while another 27,698 families are staying with relatives.  (PNA)
