Google’s AI-powered research assistant, NotebookLM, just got a major upgrade — and it’s all about making learning and collaboration easier, smarter, and more visual.
Say hello to video overviews
The headline feature? Video overviews — a dynamic new way to digest information. Think of it as your personal AI tutor that turns your notes into narrated slide presentations. These videos are crafted by an AI host that blends key quotes, data, and even custom visuals like charts or diagrams into an engaging summary of your documents.
Whether you’re learning a new topic from scratch or breaking down a complex idea for a niche audience, you can now tailor your video overview to fit the level and focus you need. Want something for beginners? Need a technical deep dive for your team? Just tell NotebookLM your learning goals, and it does the rest.
Video overviews are now available in English, with support for more languages coming soon.
Studio gets a power boost
NotebookLM’s Studio panel also received a complete redesign, unlocking a new level of flexibility and creativity.
Previously, users were limited to just one output per type in each notebook — one mind map, one audio overview, etc. Now, you can generate multiple versions of each format within the same notebook. That means:
- Creating audio overviews in different languages for international teams
- Tailoring video overviews for different stakeholders — like marketing, engineering, or leadership
- Making multiple mind maps to cover different chapters of your study material
- Storing all your outputs in a clean, easy-to-navigate panel that lets you multi-task — like listening to an audio summary while reviewing a mind map
The redesigned Studio features four output options — audio overview, video overview, mind map, and report — with everything saved in a scrollable, organized list below.
The rollout is happening over the next few weeks, bringing these new capabilities to all users.
