From Laguna to Seoul: Arabelle Dela Cruz finds her moment on the Veiled Cup stage

A smiling woman in a black sequined dress holds a trophy in one hand and two flags in the other, standing in front of a backdrop that says 'VEILED CUP'.

Years after quietly joining competitions where victories did not always come, Arabelle Dela Cruz finally found the stage—and the timing—that allowed her voice to be fully heard.

The former Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist made history last weekend after being crowned grand champion of Veiled Cup, an international reality singing contest held in South Korea.

Performing under the alias Laguna Diva, Arabelle bested finalists from Thailand, Laos, and the host country, sealing her win with a commanding rendition of Michael Bublé’s “Feeling Good” during the February 1 finale.

Shortly after her victory, the Laguna-born singer poured her emotions into a heartfelt message on social media, dedicating the milestone not only to her supporters but to the Philippines as a whole. “Pilipinas, panalo tayo,” she wrote, describing her gratitude for the faith of her family, friends, and the many people who stood by her through years of quiet perseverance.

She also acknowledged the disappointments that once defined her journey, noting that each setback shaped the artist she has become today.

For Arabelle, the win carried a deeply personal meaning. She framed it as a gift to her younger self—the child who once dreamed of being heard but had to wait patiently for the right moment. “Nabigyan na siya ng panahon ngayon,” she wrote, a line that resonated strongly with fans who have followed her long climb toward recognition.\

Her triumph at Veiled Cup was decided through a global audience vote, while judges determined the results during the preliminary and semifinal rounds. The competition is the inaugural season under its current title and the third overall installment of the South Korean series Veiled Musician, which this year opened its doors to international contenders.

Auditions were held across multiple countries, including the Philippines, South Korea, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, and Japan.

True to the show’s unique format, contestants performed behind a white circular veil and adopted aliases inspired by their hometowns, allowing voices—not faces—to take center stage. The judging panel featured some of South Korea’s most respected artists, including Tiffany Young, Miyeon, Henry Lau, Ailee, 10cm, and Paul Kim.

Arabelle was not the only Filipino to step onto the Veiled Cup stage. Fellow singers Garrett Bolden and Thea Astley also represented the country, underscoring the Philippines’ growing presence in South Korea’s competitive music scene. Her win adds to a recent list of Filipino successes abroad, following Gwyn Dorado’s runner-up finish in the fourth season of Sing Again.

Now proudly introducing herself as the Veiled Cup 2026 grand champion, Arabelle Dela Cruz stands as a reminder that some dreams simply need time—and the right stage—to finally take flight.
