SEOUL – An Indonesian crew member was among two people reported missing after a fishing vessel capsized off Jeju Island in South Korea, Yonhap News reported Monday.

The 29-ton coastal longline fishing boat overturned in waters about 65 kilometers northwest of Chagwi Island, off the southern resort province of Jeju.

Nine crew members were rescued by nearby fishermen, including eight Indonesians and one Vietnamese national.

The Jeju Coast Guard said one Indonesian crew member and the South Korean captain remain missing.

Authorities deployed a helicopter, naval and patrol vessels, along with civilian fishing boats, to search for the missing crew.

The vessel had declared only eight people on board in its departure report, but authorities later determined that 11 crew members were actually aboard.
