First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos described her meeting with Hollywood couple George and Amal Clooney over the weekend as “joyful and inspiring,” highlighting their advocacy for human rights and press freedom.
Sharing on social media, she said: “What a joy it was spending time with Amal and George Clooney. Our conversation about the Clooney Foundation for Justice – especially their work on press freedom and protecting human rights – was truly inspiring.”
“Hearing firsthand how passionately they fight for the vulnerable reminded me of the power of compassion anchored in the rule of law,” she added, noting her admiration as a lawyer and law professor.
Snapshots from the courtesy call at Malacañang showed Amal’s books, including Freedom of Speech in International Law and The Right to a Fair Trial in International Law.
The Clooneys visited the Philippines for the Social Good Summit 2025 in Pasay City, discussing press freedom and exploring ways artificial intelligence can expand access to justice.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the government’s commitment to uphold press freedom during the meeting.
