FEU-DN steel ends slump with straight-set win

FEU-DN Steel snapped a three-game losing streak with a 25-16, 25-21, 25-18 victory over Volleyball Never Stops (VNS) on Friday at the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference in Paco Arena, Manila.

Dryx Saavedra led the Tamaraws with 13 points, including 10 attacks, two aces, and a block, while Lirick Mendoza contributed 10 points from eight attacks and two blocks. Charles Absin added eight points, including six key blocks in the second set as FEU-DN Steel rallied from a 16-19 deficit to win after 25 minutes.

“This game, it’s really a matter of mind setting. I don’t understand what’s going on. But wherever we are now, I know the team will move well towards the UAAP,” said head coach Eddieson Orcullo. He added that their near-upset of powerhouse Criss Cross earlier this week gave the team confidence.

For VNS, Jerremy Pedrosa scored 10 points, while RK Medino and Kimmy Liray added nine and eight points, respectively, as the Griffins fell to 1–5.

FEU-DN Steel will face UST-Gameville on Sunday at 5 p.m., while VNS meets PGJC-Navy at 1 p.m.
