DTI steps up consumer protection drive for Consumer Welfare Month

MANILA — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has intensified its campaign to educate consumers about their rights and the importance of choosing safe and quality products as the country observes Consumer Welfare Month this October.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the DTI is inviting the public to take part in this year’s celebration, which carries the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”

“Kaugnay nito, inaanyayahan ng DTI ang publiko na makilahok sa Consumer Welfare Month 2026 ngayong Oktubre na may temang ‘Safe Products, Confident Consumers,’” Castro said during a Palace briefing on Thursday.

She said the campaign reflects the government’s push to promote product safety, quality and responsible consumer choices.

Among the activities lined up by the DTI are a Consumer Fun Run at the Marikina Complex, a Konsyumer Assembly sa Barangay in Metro Manila focusing on consumer rights and responsibilities, and a Certified Products Expo at SM Megamall from October 13 to 15.

The celebration will also include National Standards Week, the Bagwis Awards and Seal of Legitimacy, and the Consumer Advocacy Making Challenge.

Castro said DTI regional and provincial offices will also conduct seminars, community activities, youth-oriented programs and intensified market monitoring to ensure compliance with product safety standards.

The public is encouraged to visit the DTI’s official website and DTI Consumer Care Facebook page for more information on Consumer Welfare Month activities.

Consumer Welfare Month is observed every October under Presidential Proclamation No. 1098, series of 1997, to raise awareness of consumer rights and promote programs aimed at protecting consumer welfare.
