The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has advised motorists to prepare for temporary traffic slowdowns in several parts of Metro Manila from November 4 to 7 as a tunnel boring machine (TBM) is transported to another construction site for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).

According to the DOTr, the massive equipment will be transferred from the CP104 Stockyard along Doña Julia Vargas Avenue in Pasig City to the subway’s Shaw Boulevard Station.

Transport operations are scheduled between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. to minimize disruptions to motorists and commuters during peak traffic hours.

The tunnel boring machine will be used to excavate underground tunnels connecting the Shaw Boulevard and Ortigas Avenue stations, a crucial section of the country’s first underground railway system.

The DOTr identified several roads where motorists may experience temporary traffic slowdowns during the equipment transfer, including Doña Julia Vargas Avenue, E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue (C-5), Pasig Boulevard, Capt. Henry Javier Street and Meralco Avenue.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes, allow additional travel time and follow traffic advisories issued by local authorities.

The department said traffic management measures will be coordinated with concerned agencies to ensure public safety and facilitate the movement of the heavy construction equipment.

The activity marks another phase in the implementation of the Metro Manila Subway Project, one of the major infrastructure initiatives under the Marcos administration’s Build Better More program.

The project aims to modernize public transportation, ease road congestion and improve connectivity across Metro Manila.

Once operational, the subway system is expected to provide commuters with a faster, safer and more reliable transportation option while reducing travel times between major destinations in the National Capital Region.

The DOTr said the continued construction activities reflect the government’s efforts to expand mass transportation infrastructure and improve mobility for commuters despite temporary disruptions during project implementation.
