LTO-11 urges early renewal despite deadline extensions

DAVAO CITY – The Land Transportation Office in Region 11 (LTO-11) is urging motor vehicle owners to renew their registrations promptly and avoid waiting for the final day of extended deadlines to prevent inconvenience and overcrowding at government offices.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, LTO-11 regional director, lawyer Ernesto Raphael Robillo emphasized the importance of civic responsibility among vehicle owners, reminding the public to take proactive steps when their registrations or license plates are due for renewal.

“First, I would like to make an appeal. We should be responsible as vehicle owners. If we know our plates or vehicle registrations are about to expire, and there is no impediment on our end preventing us from renewing them, let us go ahead and renew our vehicle registrations,” he added.

Robillo’s appeal comes amid the implementation of registration extension periods for vehicle owners whose registrations are set to expire in the latter half of 2026.

Under the scheme, vehicle registrations originally expiring in July and August 2026 may be renewed until Dec. 29, 2026.

Vehicles due for renewal in September 2026 have an extended deadline until Jan. 29, 2027.

Meanwhile, registrations expiring in October 2026 may be renewed until Feb. 26, 2027.

Despite the extension periods, Robillo cautioned motorists against taking the additional time for granted, noting that last-minute renewals often result in long queues and congestion at LTO offices.

“Again, with these dates, if we are capable and there is no impediment to renewing our vehicles, I urge the public not to wait for the extension deadlines,” he said.

He added that renewing early would help motorists avoid unnecessary inconvenience while preventing overcrowding at LTO branches.

“As much as possible, if your expiration falls on these dates, please renew your registrations as soon as you can,” Robillo urged. (PNA)
