DFA monitors situation in Pakistan after deadly mosque bombing

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday announced it is closely monitoring the situation in Islamabad following a suicide bombing at a mosque that killed at least 31 people and injured over 160 others.

The Philippine Embassy in Islamabad is currently verifying the status of Filipinos in the area. Initial reports indicate no Philippine nationals were among the casualties in the blast, which occurred during Friday prayers at the Khadija Tul Kubra Mosque in the Tarlai Kalan area.

“The Department, through the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad, is monitoring the situation and is in touch with the Filipino community to ensure their safety,” the DFA said in a statement.

The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the attack, which local authorities described as the deadliest in the Pakistani capital in years.

Security forces have since cordoned off the site, and a state of emergency was declared in nearby hospitals to treat the wounded.

The DFA advised Filipinos residing in or traveling to Pakistan to remain vigilant, avoid crowded areas, and follow the security advisories issued by local authorities.

There are approximately 1,800 Filipinos currently living and working in Pakistan. The Embassy has urged any Filipinos in need of assistance to contact their emergency hotline.
