Cebuanos got a first-hand taste of the global volleyball fever as the FIVB Men’s World Championship trophy and mascots made a vibrant stop in the Queen City of the South over the weekend.

The SM Seaside Complex was transformed into a volleyball carnival with live performances, meet-and-greets, and cultural showcases, bringing fans closer to the once-in-a-generation event that will unfold in the Philippines this September.

Volleyball star and tournament ambassador Eya Laure led the celebrations alongside Cebuana hitmaker Karencitta, who energized the crowd with a live rendition of Electrifying, the official tournament anthem. Joining them were the championship mascots—Kid Lat and Kool Log—who entertained young fans and completed the festival atmosphere.

Organizers emphasized that the tour is not just a promotional stop, but also a way to rally nationwide support for Alas Pilipinas Men, who have been sharpening their game in three European training camps ahead of their historic world championship campaign.

“We want every Filipino, from Luzon to Mindanao, to feel they are part of this world-class journey,” said Ramon “Tats” Suzara, president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation. “The World Championship is more than just a sporting event—it’s a cultural showcase and a celebration of the Filipino spirit.”

Though currently in Thailand to supervise the women’s world championship, Suzara assured that preparations in the Philippines remain on track, with organizers aiming to make the local hosting both festive and memorable.

Local sports advocates and government representatives, including the Cebu City Sports Commission and the Department of Tourism, also joined the event to highlight Cebu’s role in promoting both grassroots volleyball and sports tourism.

After Cebu, the trophy and mascot tour will continue to Laoag City on August 24 and Cagayan de Oro on August 31, building up nationwide momentum before the world’s top men’s teams converge in the country.

Meanwhile, Alas Pilipinas Men are wrapping up their last training stop in Portugal, having already completed camps in Romania and Morocco—experiences that are expected to toughen the squad ahead of their world-class challenge.

As the countdown begins, the Philippines is not only preparing to host volleyball’s brightest stars, but also to showcase its passion, music, and culture to the world.
