Philippines gears up for historic hosting of inaugural Women’s Futsal World Cup

The Philippines is stepping onto the global sporting stage once more as preparations intensify for the country’s hosting of the first-ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup this November.

Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president John Gutierrez and Isabella Fernando, who leads government relations for the local organizing committee, are set to brief the media at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday. They are expected to provide updates on logistics, venues, and the country’s readiness to welcome the world’s top futsal players.

From November 21 to December 7, 16 nations will battle for the historic crown, with matches scheduled at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City and the Victorias City Arena in Negros Occidental. This marks the first time the Philippines will host a FIFA women’s tournament, an opportunity officials believe could inspire a new generation of female athletes.

“This is more than just a competition—it’s a statement that the Philippines can be a hub for global sporting events,” a PFF insider said, hinting at long-term plans to strengthen grassroots futsal programs across the country.

The PSA Forum, held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and livestreamed on Facebook, will not only focus on futsal. Also in the spotlight are Filipino athletes who recently shone in Chengdu, China, at the World Games. Among them is jiujitsu star Kaila Napolis, who secured a silver medal for the Philippines, continuing her steady rise as one of the nation’s most consistent international performers.

Organized weekly by the country’s oldest sports media body, the PSA Forum serves as a vital platform for highlighting stories that bridge international exposure with homegrown talent. It is backed by partners including San Miguel Corporation, the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee, Milo, Smart/PLDT, and ArenaPlus.

The upcoming session will also be carried on Radyo Pilipinas 2 on delayed broadcast, ensuring wider reach for updates on the country’s historic sports milestones.

As the countdown begins for the World Cup, the message is clear: the Philippines is not only ready to host, but eager to prove it belongs on the world stage of sport.
