Bicol crime rate drops 7.12% with 5-Minute police response strategy

LEGAZPI CITY — Crime incidents in the Bicol Region fell by 7.12%, a decline credited to the 5-minute police response time strategy, the Police Regional Office-5 (PRO-5) reported Thursday.

PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr. said from July 16 to Aug. 16, the region recorded 1,722 crimes, 132 fewer than the 1,854 incidents during the same period last year.

Babagay highlighted the success of the quick-response approach, saying, “Criminals are now deterred, knowing that the police can and will arrive immediately, while communities feel safer and more empowered to seek help.”

Aside from crime prevention, PRO-5 intensified its operations against illegal drugs, confiscating ₱15.07 million worth of substances, including 54.62 grams of marijuana and 2,215.49 grams of shabu, resulting in 114 arrests.

The campaign against wanted persons also gained traction, with 350 suspects arrested across different levels.

“As we maintain this momentum, PRO-5 will continue to enhance the 5-minute response framework, ensuring faster police services, stronger operations, and safer communities,” Babagay said.
