NEGROS OCCIDENTAL — Two local government units (LGUs) in southern Negros Occidental, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), are set to open their One Town, One Product (OTOP) hubs this September to promote homegrown products and support local entrepreneurs.
Hinigaran will inaugurate its OTOP hub on Sept. 2, followed by Sipalay City on Sept. 12.
“This initiative aims to empower micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), promote local tourism, and support home-grown products,” the DTI-Negros Occidental said in a statement Thursday.
The hubs will feature a variety of local delicacies and handcrafted products made by entrepreneurs from each area.
DTI-Negros Occidental Chief Trade and Industry Development Specialist Engiemar Tupas said existing product showrooms in Kabankalan, Himamaylan, San Carlos, Sagay, and Talisay are also being considered for conversion into OTOP hubs.
The OTOP Philippines program is a government initiative that supports MSMEs by providing assistance and promoting inclusive local economic growth. Under the OTOP Philippines Act, products must reflect local culture, community resources, creativity, and competitive advantage.
In Bacolod City, two OTOP hubs are already operational: the Association of Negros Producers Showroom on South Capitol Road and the OTOP Lifestyle inside Ayala Malls Capitol Central.
