Alex Eala’s rise in the global tennis scene has reached another remarkable chapter. The 20-year-old Filipina ace officially entered the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Top 50 this week, securing the No. 50 spot in the world rankings—her highest yet and the best-ever achieved by a Filipino player.

Her latest milestone crowns a season that saw Eala evolve from promising talent to legitimate world contender. Just a year ago, she was ranked outside the Top 100. But a stunning semifinal run at the Miami Open earlier this year vaulted her into the global spotlight, transforming her from a rising prospect into one of the WTA tour’s most exciting young stars.

That momentum continued with a historic first-round victory at the US Open main draw, where she became the first Filipina to win a singles match in the prestigious tournament. Soon after, Eala clinched her maiden WTA title at the Guadalajara 125 Open—solidifying her place among the sport’s elite.

Even her recent Round-of-16 exit in the Hong Kong Open couldn’t slow her upward trajectory. Her performance throughout 2025 proved enough to push her past the elusive Top 50 barrier, underscoring her consistency and growing maturity on court.

Now back in the Philippines for a well-deserved breather, Eala is shifting her focus toward the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December—where she hopes to bring home gold for the country that has cheered her every step of the way.

With her breakthrough year capped by a Top 50 finish, Alex Eala has firmly established herself not just as the face of Philippine tennis, but as a new force in the global game—one powerful serve, and one fearless rally, at a time.
