MANILA – Far Eastern University pulled off a 20-25, 25-13, 24-26, 25-12, 15-6 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College to sweep Pool C in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Unity Cup Saturday at Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
Gerz Petallo scored 25 points, all on attacks, as FEU joined National University, Adamson University and the No. 2 squad from Pool B in the round-robin playoffs.
“We really struggled, but it served as a major eye-opener for us, as we had been perhaps too confident in our own strength. We were faced with certain challenges, and there is still so much we need to improve and work on. We aren’t going to settle for anything less,” Petallo said.
“If we don’t go all out in every single game, this is exactly what’s going to happen. If we just stay relaxed all the time — well, that’s just how it’s going to turn out. We really need to give it our all and fight in every game,” she added.
Ia David had 10 points, while veterans Cla Loresco and Alyzza Devosora contributed nine points apiece.
After taking the fourth set, the Lady Tamaraws sustained their momentum to wrap up the match in two hours and 10 minutes.
Xyra Dayanan finished with 19 points on 18 attacks and one ace for the Lady Generals, who took their third straight defeat.
Angelica Pasaol had 12 points while Marinel Ramos and Ashley Toriado scored six each. (Jean Malanum/PNA)
