Thousands of travelers were left waiting at seaports across the Bicol region on Sunday as Tropical Storm Ada continued to disrupt maritime operations, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The Coast Guard’s Bicol command said a total of 6,171 passengers were unable to proceed with their trips, alongside more than 2,000 rolling cargo units affected by the weather disturbance.
Authorities also reported that several vessels were either held back from departure or forced to take shelter, particularly in ports located in Masbate and Sorsogon.
With rough seas persisting, Coast Guard personnel were placed on full alert to ensure passenger safety and respond to any weather-related emergencies.
State meteorologists said Ada was last tracked east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, carrying maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour with higher gusts.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remained in effect over Catanduanes and parts of Camarines Sur, while lower wind signals were raised over wide areas of Southern Luzon and parts of the Visayas.
Pagasa also warned of possible flooding in low-lying and river-adjacent communities in Catanduanes and Camarines Sur as heavy rains associated with the storm continued to fall.
