Tropical Storm Ada (international name: Nokaen) has claimed two lives in Bicol, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Sunday.
The fatalities, which occurred in a landslide in Matnog, Sorsogon, are still being verified, the NDRRMC said.
The storm has so far impacted more than 7,000 families, or over 10,000 people, across Bicol and parts of Caraga, prompting preemptive evacuations in at least 82 areas.
Seventy-one communities were reported flooded due to persistent heavy rains, and the government has provided emergency aid totaling P547,765, including food and non-food relief items.
Pagasa said Ada was located 140 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, moving slowly east-northeast with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 90 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remains over Catanduanes and eastern Camarines Sur, while Signal No. 1 covers Southern Quezon, Camarines Norte, the rest of Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Ticao, Burias Islands, and Northern Samar.
Authorities warned of continued heavy rains, possible coastal flooding, and storm surges of up to two meters, urging residents in exposed and low-lying areas to stay vigilant and follow local disaster advisories.
