Chinese President Xi Jinping received Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in Beijing on Tuesday as the visiting leader began a three-day state visit to China.

China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that an official welcome ceremony was held before the two leaders proceeded with their scheduled engagements.

Pellegrini arrived in Beijing on Monday for his first trip to China since becoming Slovakia’s president in 2024.

The visit was expected to focus on bilateral ties and possible cooperation in economic, political and other areas.

China’s Foreign Ministry earlier said Beijing wanted to strengthen mutual trust with Bratislava and improve coordination between the two countries’ development plans.

The ministry also expressed support for broader exchanges, although no specific agreements were announced ahead of the talks.

Economic ties formed part of the relationship, with Chinese exports to Slovakia reaching $4.39 billion in 2025.

China imported $4.24 billion worth of goods from Slovakia during the same period, according to state broadcaster CGTN.
