Several drones struck or approached multiple locations in northern Iraq early Tuesday, triggering explosions across the Kurdistan Region, local media reported.
The reported targets included Erbil and the nearby districts of Soran and Khalifan.
Air defense units of the US-led coalition intercepted one drone above Erbil, according to an Erbil-based news outlet.
Three additional drones were reportedly shot down over Soran, a district near Iraq’s border with Iran.
Authorities had not immediately reported casualties or confirmed the extent of damage caused by the attacks.
The Kurdish Regional Government earlier condemned strikes attributed to Iran and urged Tehran to end attacks inside the region.
Iran has previously targeted positions of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, as well as facilities linked to the United States.
A recent missile strike on a camp in Sulaymaniyah reportedly killed eight members of an Iranian Kurdish organization that Tehran classifies as a terrorist group.
