ISTANBUL — The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles allegedly launched by Houthi forces toward Najran province in southwestern Saudi Arabia.

Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interceptions in a statement posted on social media platform X.

“Air defenses intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the terrorist Houthi militia toward Najran,” al-Maliki said.

He added that debris fell following the interceptions, with authorities assessing the extent of possible damage.

The incident prompted Saudi Civil Defense to issue an emergency warning to residents of Najran about a potential threat.

Authorities later announced that the danger had passed.

The reported missile interceptions came amid renewed hostilities involving Houthi forces and the Saudi-led coalition, with missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi territory in recent weeks.

Yemen has been embroiled in civil war since September 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and other parts of the country.

The Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

The conflict has continued to fuel regional security concerns, particularly as cross-border attacks threaten civilian areas and infrastructure.

The coalition has not yet released a final assessment of the damage caused by falling missile debris.
