World’s largest ‘floating offshore refinery’ sets sail from Jiangsu

The world’s largest floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel has departed from Jiangsu, China on December 16 to serve a Brazilian deepwater oil project.

The M026 FPSO, built by COSCO (Qidong) Offshore Engineering, a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, spans 335.31 meters in length, 60 meters in width, and 33.515 meters in height.

With its massive size, the vessel also set a new tonnage towing record along the Yangtze River during its delivery.

Destined for an ultra-deep-water oil development project in Brazil, the FPSO is equipped to produce 180,000 barrels of oil per day, process 12 million standard cubic meters of natural gas, and store up to 1.4 million barrels of crude oil.

Often referred to as a “floating offshore refinery,” the M026 FPSO is now the largest of its kind in terms of tonnage and oil storage capacity.
